Rumor: Spider-Man has a name, director, and actor?

A couple days ago, it was reported that the MCU Spider-Man has a release date. Unfortunately, I could not find the original source claiming to report the information. Every article simply said, “It’s been reported that”, instead of citing a source. The closest to the original report is from the LatinoReview, which has not always been a reliable source. So I can only label this as a rumor that has been reported consistently.

The rumor says that the new Spider-Man movie is called the “Spectacular Spider-Man”. In the comics, this is the name of a comic line that run along the same time as other comics lines. They were often supplementary to the story being told in the primary Spider-Man, such as the Amazing Spider-Man comics. This was very evident in Civil War, where the Spectacular Spider-Man stories were told in such a way that the reader couldn’t understand the story unless following the Amazing Spider-Man as well.

The director rumored is Drew Goddard. Goddard directed Cabin in the Woods and wrote movies like World War Z and Cloverfield. He is not widely known, but he has been involved in good movies. Reportedly, Godard would be writing and directing the film.

There are also reports the Iron Man will make a cameo in the film, implying that the story could possibly be a continuation of the Civil War.

Still another rumor is that Dylan O’Brien has already been cast as Spider-Man. O’Brien has been in Maze Runner and Teen Wolf. Logan has denied it in a statement: “Professionally, I haven’t heard anything about it… I’ve only heard from, like, [rumors] online… It feels so weird to say… It’s so funny. My friends from New Jersey are calling me. They’re like, ‘what are you not telling me, dude?! Spider-Man?!’ It makes me feel bad because I’m, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation… You can tell them that it’s not true.”

This is not the only rumor suggesting a considerably younger Spider-Man. His age would indicate a still-young Spider-Man, leading to the third rumor:

This Spider-Man is the first movie of the first of three trilogies. These nine movies would see Spider-Man grow up into a considerably older and more mature Peter Parker. This rumor has almost no source, but while I’m reporting rumors I might as well mention it.

I don’t know how these rumors will turn out. If they end up being true, it will provide some very interesting news. There is still some announcement for tomoorow that has been teased (possibly alongside with the trailer of Age of Ultron). For now, only time will tell.

One response to “Rumor: Spider-Man has a name, director, and actor?

  1. I guess some of them might be true because they are logical…like Spider-man starting out as young as possible (they’ll want the character in the MCU as long as possible), the “Spectacular Spider-man” title, not another origin story…others, we’ll see. I won’t go excited or angry about anything until there is confirmation.
Though I admit, the Spider-man being a continuation of Civil War would be awesome…in any case, an appearance of Iron Man would be the push the movie might need. In general I hope that Civil War will have an effect on everything, every single TV show (well, except Agent Carter for obvious reasons).
