Another X-men from past films has been recast for this new and coming film, X-men: Apocalypse. Kodi Smit-McPhee has joined the film as Nightcrawler, the blue-skinned teleporter.
Fans will likely remember him from X-men 2, where he was played by Alan Cumming. The character was beloved by most fans, but was not brought back in X3. Nobody really knows why (my best the answer sounds something like, “Brett Ratner”).
Kodi Smit-McPhee is most known for his roll in The Road, but has also played in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Nightcrawler was a German mutant who spent a lot of his time coping with the fact that he looked like a demon. He was a part of the second forming of X-men, which was focused more on a racially diverse grouping (Storm, Colossus, and even the Canadian Wolverine).
It’s interesting that the X-verse has now, with their DoFP timeline shift, feels free to recast everyone. I think this specific X-men team that is being built is a strong one. Assuming they are all on the same side, the team reads:
- Jean Grey
Beast is also the oldest actor cast, providing an interesting dynamic.
What do you think? Do you like this team set-up? What do you think of the younger characters? I am excited to see how they go about introducing the group. For now, only time will tell.
