Agents of SHIELD Casting and News

Agents of SHIELD isn’t coming back for a couple weeks still, but we’ve been steadily seeing more information about what to expect when it does return. I’ve been collecting it in order to bring it all at once (as opposed to three smaller posts). So here is what’s up and coming for Agents of SHIELD.

Luke Mitchell Cast as an Inhuman

Luke Mitchell, known for The Tomorrow People and 7 Minutes, has been cast as an Inhuman, named Lincoln. Nothing much is known about Lincoln, but he will likely help Skye identify who she is and what that means. The head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, said, “With the revelations surrounding Skye’s true identity in the Winter Finale, we knew we’d be introducing more Inhumans as our story progressed. The charming energy Luke brings to the role will make him a character to watch as we continue our season.”Lincoln is not a name of a specific Inhuman in the comics. It seems like Agents of SHIELD is building their own canon just as much as they are borrowing from the comics.

Drea de Matteo as Sky’s Daddy’s Accomplice

Drea de Matteo, known for her roll in Sons of Anarchy, has joined Agents of SHIELD as Karla Van Gideon. Karla is described as a villain whose grudge against SHIELD leads her to join forces with Cal, the Hulkish father of Skye. The same Jeph Loeb said, “We’re thrilled to have Drea join us as yet another great villain to challenge our cast. We relished the opportunity to work with her in such a menacing role.”In the comics, Karla lost her son and became a villain for Daredevil on a few occasions.

Lady Sif to Return for Season 2

Lady Sif, played by the lovely Jaimie Alexander, will be returning again for Season 2 of Agents of SHIELD. She appeared last year in a similar point during the season. Jeffery Bell, a producer on Agents of SHIELD, said, “Sif has no idea who Thor is or that she serves a king, and we’re going to have fun with that. It’ll give us some much-needed humor in a season that’s been full of betrayal and death. Sif can’t even recall who she came here from Asgard to stop, but Agent Coulson [Clark Gregg] and his team will try to help her figure all that out…

“We’ve been dealing a lot with space aliens and Inhumans in our last few episodes—things our Earth-bound heroes just don’t know much about. They need help understanding what’s really going on. Sif’s memory—what’s left of it—will come in very handy.”

These are some of the big pieces of news regarding Agents of SHIELD. What do you think? Are you excited to see the Son of Cole return? The TV show could go a lot of directions from this point, but for now, only time will tell.
