David Tennant, known mostly for his take as the tenth doctor in Doctor Who, will be joining the MCU as the villain of Jessica Jones’ TV show. The official announcement lists him as “Kilgrave”. Although two characters share the name, the only male (and the considerably more well known) is the Purple Man.
The Purple Man started as a Daredevil villain, but has been featured in a variety of comics. A lab accident turned his skin completely purple and gave him powers of persuasion, enabling him to control those around him.
The fact that the announcement does not list him as the Purple Man indicates that they may be leaving the tainted skin out of the equation, which I consider to be a good move. The only information we have on the character in the show reads, “An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.”
Tennant will be the second Doctor from Doctor Who to join the MCU, with Christopher Eccleson playing Malakeith in Thor: The Dark World. They also appear to be going in chronological order beginning in New Who, so here’s looking at you Matt Smith.
What do you think? Will the Purple Man make it to the MCU or is the name a coincidence? Only time will tell.
