Rumors for Iron Man 4 have been circulating and I, as a general rule, have been shooting them down as much as possible. I don’t believe that the contracts allow for an Iron Man 4, I think Marvel will set its sights on expanding the Universe through other characters, and I think that Iron Man stand-alone movies are, and should be, done. That being said, Robert Downey Junior has said some interesting things in the past couple days.
Recently, in an interview with Ellen, Robert Downey Junior said that plans for a fourth Iron Man movie were in the works. Regarding IM4, he said,
“I know there’s going to be a bunch more Marvel movies and they have big ideas of how to do it best, and you know, we’re in the middle of negotiations… okay, yes.”
Then, later, on David Letterman, he revised his statements:
“There [are] no plans for an Iron Man 4.”
Letterman asked why not.
“That’s a valid question. Like it hasn’t made enough money? Yeah, I guess they have too much money or something. There is no script for Iron Man 4. They do have a plan and I think they’re going to announce it [soon].”
So that sounds like a pretty good pre-announcement for Iron Man 4, right? Except, he didn’t stop there. Letterman kept going about if Iron Man 4 was in the works and he said:
“Just between us, no. But, I’m going to do other stuff with Marvel. I’m still going to be involved with Marvel and there’s going to be plenty of fun stuff to happen.”
So what the heck are we supposed to take from this? Is Iron Man 4 a thing? Should it be? Sound off in the comments, and answer the poll, but for now, only time will tell.
