I have been attempting to field rumors for a while now regarding future movies. I’ve dedicated posts to it previously, giving my opinion on what rumors have surfaced and what they mean to us as viewers. I wrote a larger article to cover a couple theories, but a new one surfaced over the past couple weeks.
Someone began the rumor that The Avengers 3 will be broken up into two movies. This practice was began early on with Harry Potter, but has been done with many teen movies, such as Hunger Games and Twilight. The Avengers doesn’t quite fit into this brand of movies, but the practice is being rumored to continue.
My biggest issue with this theory, and the reason that I say it won’t happen, is the contracts. That would involve two more “Avenger” movies, when Robert Downey Junior and Chris Evans are only signed on for one more. They would have to extend the contracts of all the actors, specifically these two who don’t want to continue on with their rolls.
My second issue with this theory is that it precludes that the Avengers 3 will be the end of the series. This split-movie approach has, historically, only applied to the last movie of the series. Meanwhile, we have some pretty strong evidence that the MCU will not end with the Avengers 3. Bucky has been signed on for a whopping 9 movie deal, seven of which are not yet fulfilled. I predict a strong shift in the end of the Avengers 3, but not a grand ending of the MCU.
There is also the theory that it may be the last Avenger movie. In the comics, the Avengers were disassembled in the early 2000’s. It’s possible that this is the last of the Avengers movies, but I would doubt that. It’s such a big name and good means of crossing over that I would continue to expect Avengers 4 and maybe 5.
We have to also look at what the Avengers 3 would contain. If the contract issue were resolved, what would the movie itself contain? If it involves Thanos, yes, it would probably be better to expand to multiple movies. As my readers know, however, I am unconvinced that Thanos will match up with the Avengers in Avengers 3. I am predicting him for Avengers 4 or 5, as a capstone for the MCU.
I will be writing an article soon on what Avengers 3 may contain, and various routes to get there. In the meantime, what do you think? Is the Avengers 3 going to be split into two movies? Should it? Sound off in the comments. For now, only time will tell.
