One of the movies that fans have been calling for for months, Black Panther might actually be in the works. Stan Lee, all hail the One Above All, has dropped the name when asked about what Marvel has in the works. His exact quote:
“…They are already working on Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and the Black Panther, and there are others I am not allowed to talk about.”
I am hesitant, only because Stan Lee has admitted that he is not exactly “in the know” regarding Marvel movies, but this is definitely an excited idea. The fact that Stan Lee has said this and not some random guy who did a summer internship for Marvel over the summer makes me feel much more confident.
For those of you who don’t know, Black Panther is an African King of the nation of Wauconda. Wauconda is the chief source for vibranium is the planet. The Black Panther is not a name, but a title for the King of the tribe. T’Challa is the primary holder of the title. T’Challa’s father actually gave President Roosevelt the vibranium needed for Captain America’s shield.
He is definitely the leader of a cult following in Marvel, of which I consider myself to be a part. T’Challa was an early member of the Avengers, from far back in the 60’s. Eventually, he returned to his duties in Wauconda and retired from the Avengers. He married Storm from the X-men and continues his rule today.
Although having no super abilities, the people of Wauconda have impressive technology utilizing their stores of vibranium. T’Challa uses vibranium knives and is a master of stealth and acrobatics.
T’Challa would be an interesting addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at once difficult to pull off and incredibly honoring to the comics. Of course, this is all on the basis of two words uttered by a 91-year-old man. For more, only time will tell.
