Agents of SHIELD Casts the Absorbing Man

One of my biggest problems with Agents of SHIELD was that there were not enough characters from the comics who made their way to the show. I saw it as a perfect place for much smaller comic characters to come into the MCU. They introduced Deathlock, Graviton, Scorch, and Victoria Hand. I was a little underwhelmed.

All that to say, I am glad to announce another character from the comics has been added to Agents of SHIELD. The Absorbing Man will make his way onto the small screen this year, and into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So who is the Absorbing Man?

Carl “Crusher” Creel was an early villain of Hulk and Thor. In order to battle his brother Thor, Loki gave special abilities to Creel. Whatever his skin touched, he was able to replicate the cellular structure in his own body. Therefore if he touched steel, his skin could become like steel.

Playing The Absorbing Man will be Brian Patrick Wade, known for his rolls in The Guardian and Teen Wolf. Marvel released the first image of him in character:

Personally, I’m a fan. He looks the part for what I’ve imagined the Absorbing Man to be. It will be interesting to see the treatment that Agents of SHIELD gives him.

Also, if his powers sound vaguely familiar, 2003’s Hulk borrowed a little from this character for Bruce’s father. Pappa Banner was a couple different characters combined (mostly Absorbing Man and Zzzax).

So that’s the second piece of news from Agents of SHIELD in a couple days. Truthfully, I am getting excited for this season. I think they have some good things going for them, but only time will tell.

Check back tomorrow for what the heck is going on with the Spider-man Universe.
