Agents of SHIELD casts Mockingbird

Andrianne Palicki has joined the Marvel Universe as Mockingbird. Palicki is known for her rolls in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Red Dawn. Mockingbird is a relatively important character within the MCU. Not only was she an agent of SHIELD for a long time, which I suppose lends itself to this particular TV series, but she actually married Hawkeye.

She and Hawkeye opened the West Coast Avengers, a second wing of the Avengers that were mainly based in New York.

Her superpowers are nothing special, with strength and agility, but her weapon is an elegant one. She holds a battle-stave, as seen below.

In case you were wondering, yes, she was also a normal Avenger for a time.

This is big news for Agents of SHIELD. In season 1, aside from a couple freaks of the week, the only recurring character from the comics was Deathlock. Not even any of the main characters were from the comics. The fact that they have cast a bigger name from the comics in the show is a promising sign of more comic-linked storylines or characters, something I think the show could desperately need.

As for any other characters for this season, only time will tell.

Check back tomorrow for the low-down on the Ant-men!

  1. Aren’t the current Avengers already seated in New York? (Well, if they are seated somewhere at all….)

This looks very promising indeed…my main gripe with AoS was that it was barely interconnected with the main universe at the beginning.

    • Just to clarify, The West Coast Avengers was a second team, operating at the same time on opposite sides of the US. It was founded by Hawkeye and Mockingbird.
