The Kree Empire

With the villain’s primary protagonist of Guardians of the Galaxy being a member of the Kree, as well as rumours of other members of the Kree being involved, it’s likely we will see the empire itself on screen. So what exactly is the Kree Empire?

The Kree are a scientifically advanced society. They are heavily nationalistic and happen to be involved a lot with the rest of the Marvel Universe. The Kree are ruled by a single organic computer, called the Supreme Intelligence. This computer ruled over the Kree for most of the last million years.Image

One of the most dangerous times of the Marvel Universe was brought about by the Kree and their mortal enemies, the Skrulls. They have been at war for over a million years. At one point in the war, Earth was a strategic hold, so both the Krees and Skrulls battled for control over it. This led to the Skrulls, a shape-shifting race, invading Earth and replacing many heroes with Skrulls in one of my personal favorite story arcs in Marvel Comics, the Secret Invasion. The Skrulls tried their own hand at taking over Earth, but it was always foiled, often by the Avengers.

At one point, the Kree sent Mar-Vell (Captain Marvel) to Earth as a spy. An explosion involving Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers gave Kree-like powers to Carol, making her Ms. Marvel. Often, Ms. Marvel was on the Avengers roster.

The Kree have always been warlike and dangerous, very seldom being portrayed in good light in the Marvel Universe, and with Guardians of the Galaxy coming up, it seems like the tradition will continue. It will be interesting to see how much of the Kree we see, but only time will tell.
